Karen Serobovich Vardanyan pleaded guilty in Portland to conspiracy and computer fraud tied to Ryuk ransomware after being extradited from Ukraine. The DoJ said he and co-conspirators accessed U.S. organizations' computers between November 2019 and April 2020 to install Ryuk, including a Michigan company that paid 200 bitcoin and other victims in Oregon and Texas. Prosecutors said the group received around 1,610 bitcoins in ransom payments worth over $15m at the time, and the plea deal calls for over $1.1m in restitution.
