Meta announces scam-center disruption and new anti-scam tools
Initial DisclosureMeta announced a coordinated law-enforcement operation with the FBI, the DOJ Scam Center Strike Force, and police in Thailand to disrupt scam centers in Southeast Asia that targeted users in the US, UK, and APAC, and said Thai Police arrested 21 suspects, Meta shut down more than 150,000 accounts, and new anti-scam tools were added for WhatsApp, Facebook, and Messenger to warn about malicious device-linking, suspicious friend requests, and potential scams.
